Pokémon Team Builder

Build a team of six, see its weaknesses instantly, and test real damage numbers, all in one place.

Coverage from real movesets

Most team planners only compare types. This one reads the four moves you actually chose, shows which defending types your team can’t touch, and tells you what to change in plain English.

Damage calculator built in

No copying sets into a separate calculator. Pick an attacker from your team, pick any defender, and get the full damage range with exact OHKO and 2HKO probabilities, using the same engine as the Showdown calculator.

Made for the games you play

Gen 9 and National Dex building with Tera types, plus planner pages for every mainline game back to Red & Blue with the correct regional dex and era type chart.

How to build your team

  1. Add six Pokémon

Search by name and fill your slots. Base stats, abilities, and legal movesets load automatically.
  2. Configure each set

Choose ability, item, nature, and moves; tune EVs and IVs with live calculated stats.
  3. Fix your weaknesses

The Analysis tab flags shared weaknesses, unresisted types, and offensive coverage gaps with suggestions.
  4. Test and share

Run damage calcs against real threats, then export to Showdown or share a link that rebuilds your team.

The builder reads the four moves on each of your six Pokémon, then reports which attacking types beat the team and which types your own moves cannot hit hard.

What a Pokémon team builder should actually tell you

Building a team of six is two questions at once. What can your Pokemon hit, and what can hit them back. Most planners answer only the second one: they colour in a grid of weaknesses and leave the rest to you. This Pokemon team builder reads the four moves you actually chose for each slot, so what it reports describes the team you built rather than a rough outline of it.

Everything happens on one page. Add a Pokémon, pick its ability, item and nature, drag its EVs, and the stat block recalculates as you go. Move to the Analysis tab and those same six sets are re-read as a defensive and offensive profile. Move to Damage Calc and they become attackers and defenders with real numbers behind them. Nothing gets copied between tools, because there is only one tool.

Type coverage read from your real moveset

Two things sink a team quietly. The first is a weakness several members share, so one attacker threatens half your side at once. The second is an attacking type nothing on your team can hurt, which hands the opponent a free switch every time it appears.

The Analysis tab names both. It lists the types that hit two or more of your Pokémon for double damage, the types none of your six resist, and the defending types your chosen moves cannot hit for extra damage. Each finding arrives with a sentence saying what to change, not just a number. Below that sits the full grid: every attacking type against every member, the multiplier in each cell, and a total for the team, so a single row tells you who is in trouble.

A competitive damage calculator, in the same page

Team planning falls apart at the moment you have to prove something. Will this actually knock that out. Most people answer it by opening a separate calculator and retyping the whole set by hand.

Here the calculator already knows your team. Choose an attacker from your six, choose any defender from the National Dex, and you get the complete sixteen roll damage range, the percentage of the defender's health, and the exact chance of an OHKO or 2HKO. Weather, terrain, stat stages, critical hits, screens, burn and doubles spread damage are switches you can flip. Multi hit moves are handled properly, with the KO chance worked out across every individual hit rather than approximated from a summed range.

Underneath, a table runs your chosen move against the most used Pokémon on the current ladder all at once, so you can see where a set stands against real opposition instead of one matchup at a time. That is the part a competitive Pokemon team builder needs and most planners leave out.

Every mainline game, from Red and Blue to Pokémon Champions

Full set building, EV tuning, movesets and damage maths run on Generation 9 and National Dex, which covers Scarlet and Violet along with the Pokémon Champions formats.

Beyond that, every mainline game has its own planner page carrying the correct regional dex and the type chart of its era. A Pokemon team builder for Sword and Shield offers only what the Galar dex actually contains. A FireRed planner uses the original 151 and the Generation 3 chart, where Steel still resists Dark and Ghost and Fairy does not exist yet. The same holds for Emerald, Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Black and White, X and Y, Sun and Moon, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Legends Arceus, and the rest back to Red and Blue. This matters because a plan built on the modern chart quietly misleads you in an older game.

Is this an AI Pokémon team builder?

No, and that is deliberate. People searching for an AI Pokemon team builder usually want one thing: something that looks at a team and says what is wrong with it.

That is what the Analysis tab does, except the answers are computed rather than generated. Weakness counts come from the real type chart. Damage numbers come from the same open source engine behind the Pokémon Showdown calculator. The threat list comes from published ladder usage statistics. A language model can write a confident paragraph about a matchup and still be wrong about the number, and here the number is the whole point, so it gets calculated instead.

Saving, sharing, and reusing your teams

Teams are stored in your own browser, which is what makes the copy you use genuinely yours: no account, no sign up, nothing to verify. Save as many as you like and load any of them back later.

Sharing works through a link that carries the whole team inside the URL, so whoever opens it gets your exact sets rebuilt, EVs and all. You can copy the team as Pokémon Showdown text, paste one in the other direction, or download it as an image. If you would rather start from something than from a blank page, the VGC section lists the cores people are actually winning with this month, and any of them loads into the builder as a template you can edit.

A team builder website that works on the device you have

There is nothing to install and no app to download. This is a Pokemon team builder website that runs in the browser, as readily on a phone during a lunch break as on a desktop.

Pages are static files, so they load fast on a slow connection, and the builder keeps working once the page is open. Wide tables scroll inside their own frames instead of dragging the page sideways, and every control is sized for a thumb. The whole online tool is free, carries no ads, and asks nothing of you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Pokémon team builder?

The best one is whichever answers the question you actually have. For casual play, anything that shows type weaknesses will do. Competitive play needs three more things: legal movesets rather than a free-text box, a damage calculator that uses the exact set you built instead of a generic one, and current ladder usage so you know what you are preparing against. This site does those three in a single page. Pokémon Showdown’s own teambuilder remains the reference point if you are playing on that ladder, and Pikalytics is worth a look for usage data on its own.

How do I build a Pokémon team?

Start with the two or three Pokémon you actually want to play, then fill the rest around their gaps rather than picking six favourites at once. Add each one here and the search filters the full dex as you type, loading base stats, abilities, and legal moves automatically. Once four moves are set on each, the Analysis tab lists the attacking types that threaten several of your team together and the types your own moves cannot hit hard, with a plain sentence for what to change. Fix those, then run the damage calculator against the threats you expect to meet.

Is there a Pokémon team builder app?

There is nothing to install and you do not need an app. This is a web app: open it in any browser on a phone, tablet, or desktop and it behaves the same, with your teams saved in that browser. Add it to your home screen if you want an icon to tap, but it is the same site either way, and it stays usable once the page has loaded.

What is the best 3 Pokémon team?

Three Pokémon is a core rather than a full team, and the oldest good one is Fire, Water, and Grass, because each covers what the other two fear. Modern cores follow the same logic around specific threats: something that walls physical attackers, something that answers special ones, and a sweeper whose usual checks the first two handle. Build any trio here and the Analysis tab will already tell you whether it leaves an attacking type unanswered, which decides a core far more than the individual picks do.

How do I check my team’s weaknesses?

Open the Analysis tab once there are Pokémon in your slots. It works through all eighteen attacking types, counts how many of your six take extra damage from each, and flags any type that hits two or more for double, since that is what loses games. Under it sits a full grid of every type against every member with the exact multiplier in each cell, so one row tells you who is in trouble against Ground, say. Each species also has its own weakness page if you only need one Pokémon.

Is the damage calculator accurate?

It runs the same open-source engine used by the Pokémon Showdown damage calculator (@smogon/calc), covering STAB, type effectiveness, EVs, IVs, natures, items, abilities, weather, terrain, critical hits, and the full 16-roll damage range with exact KO probabilities. Our test suite validates it against independently computed worked examples.

Does this team builder support Showdown import and export?

Yes. Paste any Pokémon Showdown team text to import it, and export your team in the same format. EVs, IVs, natures, items, abilities, Tera types, and moves all round-trip exactly.

Can I build a competitive VGC team here?

Yes. The builder covers the current VGC regulation with Tera types, doubles spread damage in the calculator, and a monthly-refreshed list of the most-used Pokémon on the ladder so you can test your sets against what people actually bring.

Which games and generations are supported?

Full move-level building and damage calculation cover Generation 9 (Scarlet & Violet and Pokémon Champions formats) plus National Dex. Every mainline game from Red & Blue, the Gen 1 pair, onward has its own planner page carrying that game’s regional dex and the generation-correct type chart, so a Gen 1 plan is built on the Generation 1 chart rather than the modern one.

Can I use this team builder for Sword and Shield, FireRed, or Emerald?

Yes. Each mainline game has its own planner page limited to that game’s regional dex and using the type chart of its generation, so a FireRed or Emerald plan follows Generation 3 rules where Fairy does not exist and Steel still resists Dark and Ghost. Sword and Shield uses the Galar dex. Full EV, moveset, and damage-calculator building runs on Generation 9 and National Dex.

Is this an AI Pokemon team builder?

No. The Analysis tab gives automatic suggestions about your team, but they are calculated rather than generated: weaknesses come from the real type chart, damage from the same engine as the Pokémon Showdown calculator, and threats from published ladder usage statistics. Nothing here is a language model guessing at numbers.

Is there a random Pokemon team generator?

Not a random one. A generator that hands you six unrelated Pokémon rarely produces a team worth playing. What you get instead is a starting point with reasoning behind it: the VGC page lists the cores winning on the current ladder, and loading one fills your slots with sets you can then edit.

Is this Pokemon team builder free to use?

Yes, completely. There is no account, no sign-up, no paid tier, and no ads. Every feature, including the damage calculator and the usage data, is open to everyone.

Where are my saved teams stored?

In your own browser’s local storage, never on our servers. That means your teams stay private, but also that clearing site data or switching devices loses them, so export anything important as Showdown text or a share link.

Can I share my team with friends?

Yes: copy a share link that rebuilds your exact team for anyone who opens it, or download the team as an image. You can also save multiple teams in your browser.
